Romy Phillips is a former arts admnistrator from New York City. After completing a BFA in painting and sculpture at
the Maryland Institute College of Art; and a MFA in Arts Administration, at Columbia University, she embarked on a decade
of roles for prominent arts ogranizations, namely The Museum of Modern Art and The Guggenheim Museum. The pressures
and stress of work and city life led her by chance to Los Angeles in 1999, where in spite of her artistic pursuits, a
life devoted to health took over. She walked into City Yoga one spring day in 1999 and her life took a dramatic
turn which led her on the path to becoming a yoga teacher. Now she is a certified yoga instructor who has
taught in a number of studios in the Los Angeles area since 2001.
Romy has completed a number of teacher trainings including Anusura (Naime Jezzeny, Sue Elkind & John Friend)
and through Yoga Works (Lisa Walford & Birgette Kirsten). She has assisted three 200 hour trainings
at Yogaworks and lead her first YW 200 Hr. teacher training in Tokyo, Japan.
Romy has attended numerous intensives and workshops with internationally recognized teachers in
the yoga community including: Patahbi Jois, John Friend, Chuck Miller & Maty Ezraty, Lisa Walford, Rodney Yee, Erich
Schiffman, Max Strom, Mark Stephens, Chad Hamrin, Richard Freeman, Rod Stryker, Donna Farhi , Annie Carpentar,
